Google Pixel 4A |
To get more customers to buy a Pixel phone, Google launched two mid-range Pixel phones last year - Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.
Pixel
3a was launched for a price of $399 in the US. It was quite well
received thanks to it's great camera with Nightsight. However, outside
US, the launch price was way higher. In India, Pixel 3a was launched at a
price of Rs 39,999 ( Around $570 ). Indian customers can buy phones
with flagship Qualcomm processors for much lesser price. So naturally,
Pixel 3a with a mid-range snapdragon processor didn't sell well.
The price of Pixel 3a has since fallen. 3a XL now sells for Rs 30,999
( from Rs 49,999 ) online in India. Pay Rs 3000 more and you can get
the OnePlus 7T with Snapdragon 855 plus and 90Hz display on board. So,
even the price drop doesn't help with the sale.
When
Google launched Pixel 4 some months back, they didn't even care to
launch it in India. Even though the official reason why they didn't
launch has nothing to do with sales, Google kinda knew this is not going
to sell well in India. So it made sense they skipped the launch here.
A
lot of leaks and renders have now surfaced online of the upcoming Pixel
4a. We can expect a similar launch price of $399 in the US and a price
of Rs 39,999 in India. I'm afraid it will get the same reception as the
Pixel 3a in India, unless Google finds a way to price it around Rs
25,000 in India.
